Mushroom cultivation seminar in DeFuniak Springs Oct. 9

The UF/IFAS Walton Extension Office is offering a seminar on growing mushrooms on Oct. 9, 2023 from 1 – 5:30 p.m. Learn all you need to do your own home or farm mushroom cultivation and get an inoculated log to take home. Special guest instructor and mushroom expert Mark Hainds from Sweetbill’s Farm will be on hand.

This class will demonstrate multiple different cultivation techniques for growing mushrooms on wood substrates. The class will include numerous mushroom species and types which will include shitake, oyster, chestnut, and many other mushroom varieties. The class will demonstrate techniques and supplies needed to work with log, totem, wood chip, and sawdust substrates. Hands on demonstrations and participation will be included. A fully inoculated mushroom log ready to produce is included with registration. Mark Hainds, will give the latest and greatest info on how to maximize your home mushroom growing or larger scale production farming. The class will cover a large variety of mushrroms that can be grown on wood substrates including shitake, oyster varieties, chestnut mushroom, and many others.
