Learn, volunteer and go birding with Choctawhatchee Audubon in November

Enjoy educational opportunities with the Choctawhatchee Audubon this November.

Thursday, November 3 – Jeff Talbert, project coordinator with Atlanta Botanical Garden’s Dept. of Conservation and Research will be talking about some of the more unique plants that contribute to our area’s most biologically diverse ecosystems, particularly our local wetlands around the coastal dune lakes in Walton County.

The program will be in Room 800 on the 2nd floor of the Chandler Center of Crosspoint Church, NW door of 519 Helms St., Niceville. Socializing with refreshments begins at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free.

Saturday, November 5 – Joint Field trip and Trail Upkeep at the Audubon Laidlaw Preserve, in northern Washington County. Leader Ron Houser (850-774-9733) will take us through a pristine preserve of hardwood hammocks and pine forests to see many woodland species. We will leave at 7:00 am from the CVS, Oak Creek Shopping Center parking lot, Niceville, or meet us at 7:45 am in the Publix parking lot on Highway 331 in Freeport. From there, we will carpool to Vernon to join Bay County Audubon members at 9:00 at the Vernon Park of C.E. Miller Landing. Bring a sack lunch, and bug spray, and wear closed-toed shoes and long pants. Bring your binoculars, camera, and water, and apply sunscreen for this birding excursion.

Saturday, November 26 – Field trip to the Destin beaches and birding spots led by an expert birder, Bruce Purdy (305-926-6030). Meet at 7:30 AM for a car caravan beginning at the CVS parking lot on 98 and Main Street in Destin. Discover gulls, terns, and shorebirds. When birding please wear muted colors, closed-toed shoes, long pants, and a hat. Bring your binoculars, scope, camera; water, and snacks, for this 2-3-hour birding excursion.
