Improvements in the works at Deer Lake State Park

August 28, 2021

Park closed until late summer/early fall 2022

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Division of Parks and Recreation (DRP) is conducting an amenity improvement project at Deer Lake State Park to add a paved access road to the park, parking for visitors, picnic shelters, restroom facilities, landscaping of native plants and connections to necessary utilities, such as water, sewer and electric. When complete, this project will provide enhanced recreational opportunities and increase water quality protections.

Deer Lake State Park will remain closed to visitors while construction is underway. Details of the improvements include adding 43 vehicle parking spaces, six golf cart parking spaces, two oversized vehicle spaces and a bike rack. Two 20-by-30-foot picnic pavilions and a new restroom facility will also be added. Native vegetation will be planted in and around stormwater retention areas and areas which are disturbed during construction. This will restore the natural ecosystem, including providing food and habitat and food for native wildlife, as well as reduce sediment erosion. Upon completion of the project, DRP will then evaluate areas where additional native planting can occur.

DEP is committed to providing quality, resource-based recreation for the residents of Florida and visitors to our state. As part of that mission, DEP regularly works to identify and execute needed improvements to infrastructures and facilities to ensure the best possible experience for visitors and staff.

While improvements are being made, enjoy nearby Camp Helen State Park, Eden Gardens State Park, and Grayton Beach State Park.
