The Walton County Fair, a tradition since 1924, kicks off six days of family fun on Monday, Oct. 5, 2015. Sticking to its roots as an agricultural fair, there will be livestock competitions every day including rabbit, poultry, hog, horse, lamb, goat and cattle shows. Department of Health confirms first human case of West Nile Virus Illness WALTON COUNTY — The Florida Department of Health in Walton County (DOH-Walton) has issued a mosquito-borne illness advisory for Walton County according to Holly Holt, DOH-Walton Administrator. Bream World Championships in Red Bay a huge success

Red Bay Grocery and Nick’s Seafood Restaurant hosted their 7th Annual Bream World Championships on Saturday, June 13. More than a dozen teams weighed in at the popular tournament. Despite a power outage at Red Bay Grocery, the weigh in still took place without a hitch. Anglers fished along the Choctawhatchee River area. Prize categories

Man catches state-record blue catfish during tournament

It’s official! Bill Stewart, 66, of Weeki Wachee, caught a 69-pound, 8-ounce blue catfish on the Choctawhatchee River, near Ebro, during the Choctawhatchee Catfish Roundup tournament on May 30. He beat the previous state record by 5 pounds. Stewart had landed four flatheads and a nice channel catfish before he put the head from a skipjack herring, which he had caught earlier, on a big circle hook. A new Florida record weight blue catfish was weighed in during the Choctawhatchee Catfish Roundup tournament in Caryville, Florida on May 30, 2015. The 3rd annual tournament was hosted by the Ponce de Leon Masonic Lodge #157, and sponsored in part by the Holmes County Tourist Development Council.
