After concerns were raised by local fishermen about the inability to fish from the 331 bridge causeway after the construction of the new U.S. Hwy 331 bridge, Walton County Commissioner Comander worked with staff and the FDOT to seek an arrangement whereby the FDOT would allow parts of the causeway to be reopened for fishing. Bent Rod Fishing Club hosts annual fish fry

The Bent Rod Fishing Club of DeFuniak Springs hosted their annual fish fry at Cat Island Park on Oct. 6. More than 15 attendees enjoyed fried catfish, trout, and bream, along with a variety of tasty sides and desserts. Gulf County bay scallop season to open Sept. 23 – Oct. 8

The Gulf County bay scallop season will open to harvest Sept. 23. The 2017 season was postponed earlier this year due to a naturally occurring algae bloom (Pseudo-nitzschia) in St. Joseph Bay that affects shellfish. Recent samples have indicated that the scallops in St. Joseph Bay are safe for human consumption and meet FDA requirements for opening harvest in the bay.
