Cultural Arts Alliance is hosting a Plein Air painting workshop with local painter Joan Vienot on Nov. 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Watersound Origins.
The workshop “Starting a Successful Plein Air Painting” will focus on practicing identifiable shape making in plein air painting, to help the artist create effective, readable shapes to greatly increase the likelihood of producing a strong painting. “If the shapes are clear and the composition is strong, then the real fun of plein air painting, capturing the light, can happen sooner,” said Vienot. Using oil paint, Joan will demonstrate concepts, composition, and color-mixing to paint the simplified scene en plein air, and then the artists will have opportunity to paint on their own with Joan mentoring. Pastel and watercolor artists are welcome as well. Click here for more information about the workshop and to register.
The workshop will be held at Watersound Origins, 573 Pathways Drive, Panama City Beach as a special addition to the 25th Annual Flutterby Festival. Click here for all of the details. There will also be a Quick Draw, Plein Air Paint Out, Plein Air Exhibit and more during this year’s Flutterby event, November 11 – 12 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
The paintings of Joan Vienot will also be on display at the Coastal Branch of the Walton County Library during October and November 2017. The library is located at 437 Greenway Trail, Santa Rosa Beach.
Vienot will be exhibiting works depicting local and regional scenes as well as scenes from her recent travels to Georgia, Montana, Colorado, and New Zealand. Many will be plein air paintings, which have the fresh, on-scene essence that is characteristic of paintings done in the moment.
