Outdoor fun received a boost recently with the opening of the new Washington County Heritage GeoTrail . The Washington County Tourist Development Council kicked off the new trail during the Caches, Critters & Cars event at Falling Waters State Park. The TDC created a game to go along with the trail in which geocachers are required to complete a certain amount of caches within each of four quadrants in Washington County to win a series of pathtags.

Looks like the word is spreading about the trail as close to 100 geochachers from across the southeast have explored the trail as of Jan. 31, 2015.

The TDC is considering the launch of a second geocaching trail in 2016. They are currently in talks with Groundspeak, the official geocaching organization, to create a GeoTour that would be promoted through their website nationally and internationally. The trail would be a challenge trail for the more avid geocacher.
