New memorial to honor our Armed Forces
The Freeport Town Planters Society in conjunction with The City of Freeport will honor all Armed Forces veterans with a new memorial at Freeport City Hall on SR20 on Nov. 11. There will be a parade starting at 2 p.m. with the dedication starting at 3 p.m.
A committee of volunteers has raised more than $30,000 to date for the memorial. The central obelisk of the monument will be polished with gray granite and have a bronze eagle in flight mounted on top. The inscription will read: “With gratitude and Honor to All Who Have Served That Freedom May Soar on Eagles Wings.” Surrounding the central obelisk will be five smaller obelisks representing the five armed services.
