Fishing clinics offered at Camp Helen State Park

July 8, 2024

The Friends of Camp Helen State Park are excited to announce youth fishing clinics at Camp Helen to educate about fishing as well as responsibly disposing of any bait and tackle.

Classes will be on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 10:30am-12pm. during the summer of 2024. There are only six openings each session.

Poles will be provided by the FOCH and bait, tackle, and instruction will be provided by Bay Breeze Bait and Tackle.

The introductory lessons will cover essential gear, casting, rigging, reeling in, and landing fish. Then, the instructor will choose a strategic spot within the park boundaries to practice the techniques learned. The primary instructor, Zak Barber, is an experienced pro shop staff member with extensive knowledge in inshore, surf, and pier fishing. His passion for fishing is contagious, and his personal instruction will provide valuable insights for years to come. Registered attendees will meet in the gazebo in front of the historic Lodge at 10:20am.

Kids should bring their own water bottles and a small towel. If parents choose to stay and watch, the $4 parking fee is included in registration.

Registration is available online at https://www.friendsofcamphelen.org/sup-kayak-rentals/, then go to BOOK.
