Enjoy a first day hike at an area Florida State Park Jan. 1

Camp Helen State Park – 10 – 11 a.m.

Join park rangers on a guided nature hike and history tour of Camp Helen State Park.

Learn about the history of the park from the original indigenous populations through the Hicks and Avondale Textile days. The hike will also highlight various natural communities including Lake Powell, a rare coastal dune lake.

  • Be prepared for hiking on a varied terrain of packed earth and sand trails.
  • Wear appropriate clothing and bring water, bug repellent and any other necessary items.

Park Fees
There is an honor entrance station. The fee is $4.00 per vehicle and $1.00 per bicyclist or pedestrian. Click here for park website.

Driving Directions
Camp Helen is located at 23937 Panama City Beach Parkway, Panama City Beach, FL, just west of the Phillips Inlet bridge on the Bay County and Walton county line. The entrance is south of U.S. Hwy 98. ::MAP::

Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park 10 – 11 a.m.

Rocky Bayou State Park invites you to join a ranger-led First Day Hike. Directions: Ask for directions at ranger station.

Fees: $5 per vehicle (up to eight people). $4 single-occupant vehicle

Topsail Hill Preserve State Park 10 – 11 a.m.

Join Park Ranger Alex for a hike through the preserve where he will discuss topics such as native plants and animals, prescribed fire, coastal dune lakes and more. Meet at the day use area at tram stop 1.

St. Andrews State Park – 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Enjoy a self-guided First Day Hike at Heron Pond Trail. A supplemental handout about points of interest along the trail will be available, and a park staff member will give a brief presentation at 10 a.m. at the lagoon boat ramp area.

Program is free with paid park entry:

  • $8 per vehicle (two to eight people).
  • $4 single-occupant vehicle.
  • $2 pedestrians, bicyclists, extra passengers, passengers in vehicle with holder of Annual Individual Entrance Pass.
