Dream Big – Read Summer program at Coastal Branch Library

Learn about chimpanzees, polar bears, bees and more!

The Walton County Coastal Library presents four programs for the Walton County Library’s Summer Reading Program 2012. Dream Big – Read programs are designed to entertain while focusing on the joys of reading beginning May 30 through June 20, every Wednesday morning at 10  a.m.

All children please plan to participate in the reading challenge this summer! Read 10 books to complete your Reading Log available at the Coastal Library. Readers hang your Reading Log in the Children’s Reading area to – Reach for the Stars as we Dream Big, READ this summer! Earn a prize and book for each completed reading log beginning May 30 through the summer.

May 30: Doreen Ingram, popular author of children’s literature has written two heartwarming tales centered on the life of the chimpanzee. Doreen wanted to show the plight of the chimpanzee as an endangered animal in her story, “My Sanctuary, A Place I Call Home”. Doreen is a volunteer foster parent for the Wildlife Sanctuary of Northwest Florida in Pensacola. She will be presenting her stories in a crafty fun way. Reach for the Stars- Dream Big, Read! June 6: “Growing your Imagination” Join Shirles Johnson and Wanda Cherry with stories to grow on! Join in the fun with stories, games, more stories and snacks to help you grow! Florist Tim Ryan, owner-operator of Botaniq Floral Studio will introduce growing enthusiasts to the art of floral arrangement as a career. All participates will create their own floral arrangement helping them grow with their imagination. Join your friends while growing in books, growing in friends, growing in reading at your Coastal Library.

June 13: Buzz into action and read about bees! Meet master Beekeeper, Jim Dietrich introduce beekeeping and all the training involved in learning how to become a beekeeper. Beekeeper Jim will bring along props to demonstrate the challenges many beekeepers meet. He will be offering hands on tasting of locally produced honey. There will be crafts, games, and light refreshments to add to the fun! Buzz into action and read about bees at your library!

June 20: Gina Ricci, children’s author and illustrator will be exploring those Amazing Polar Bears! Born in England, Gina Ricci is a self-taught artist. Her style of illustration reflects her childhood favorites such as “The Wind in the Willow” – “Winnie the Pooh”. Gina currently has several interactive children’s app books available through her website www.meanderart.com and www.pickpocketbooks.  She has written, “Far to the North” “Splish! Splash! Splosh! “Boo!” After the program, everyone is invited to stay for a homemade chocolate and vanilla ice-cream social made by our one and only library staff member, Shirles Johnson. This will wrap up our Summer Reading Program 2012, Reach for the Stars everyone and Dream Big, READ!
