Collard Festival in Ponce de Leon September 2

August 10, 2023

The Town Hall of Ponce de Leon is hosting a Collard Festival on Saturday, Sept. 2, 2023 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. The event will be held at Ponce de Leon High School, 1477 Ammons Rd., Ponce de Leon.

The original Collard Festival took place in 1980. It was the idea of Mary Martin after taking a family vacation to the mountains. After seeing how other small towns had developed their tourism by establishing heritage festivals such as farming and crops like collards, Mary brought the idea back to the Homemakers Club, and the Collard Festival was born. It ran throughout the 80s and was well attended every year until the early 90s.

Activities include horse shoe, corn hole, and children’s art competition. There will also be a collard green, cornbread, and sweet potato pie competition, and live music by the Walton Emerald Coast Community band from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. There will also be food vendors.

Donations will be accepted with proceeds going towards the town’s recreation fund and New Year’s fireworks. For vendor sign up info and more information call 850-836-4361 or email townpdl@gmail.com.
