City of DeFuniak Springs hosting inaugural LakeFest Festival June 21

lakefestlogoThe City of DeFuniak Springs announces their inaugural LakeFest on Saturday, June 21, 2014. It will be held at Lake DeFuniak along Circle Drive in DeFuniak Springs from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Lake DeFuniak, is surrounded by beautiful Chipley Park, then encircled by Circle Drive, and sits in the center of historic DeFuniak Springs, Florida. This location has been a popular gathering place since the late 1800s, beginning with the New York Chautauqua Assembly. With the growing popularity of paddle boarding, kayaking, canoeing, running and cycling, Lake DeFuniak and Chipley Park will be the perfect location for the LakeFest Festival.

The fun-filled day will kick off at 6 a.m. with LakeFest 5K and Dash N Splash. The main festival events will include water activities, food, historical tours, arts and crafts, entertainment, car shows, children’s activities, and family fun.

Tentative Schedule:

6 a.m. – 5K & Fun Run/Walk Registration. Click here to pre-register
7 a.m. – 5K Run/Walk
8 a.m. – Watersports registration
8:45 a.m. – Opening ceremony
9 a.m. Dash and Splash Fun Run/Walk
9 a.m. – Vendors open
9:15 a.m. – Main festival with Kids’ Zone including water slides, bounce house, sidewalk chalk, face painting, animal exhibit
9:30 a.m. – Live entertainment begins
9:30 a.m. – Canoe race, antique and classic car show
9:45 a.m. – Kayak race
10 a.m. – Historic tours (walking and horse-drawn), novice paddle board race begins
10:15 a.m. – Expert paddle board race begins
11 a.m. – Community competitions begin with watermelon eating completion, seed spitting contest, and dunking booth
1 p.m. – Award presentations
All day – Live demonstrations and exhibits
5 p.m. – Close
