Exotic Birds, Flora, & Other Fauna: Pictures from the enchanted Isle of Madagascar by Neil J. Lamb Oct. 3
Join in on Oct. 3 to discover the wonders of Madagascar, the world’s fourth largest island, located in the Indian Ocean off the east coast of Africa. Home to five endemic bird families and an extraordinary array of lemurs, chameleons, and plants, Madagascar offers a unique glimpse into nature’s marvels. Neil J. Lamb, a retired US Air Force Colonel, PhD Medical Entomologist, and lifelong birder, will share captivating stories and photos from his 22-day odyssey in 2023, highlighting the island’s rich culture, birdlife, and wildlife.
This Choctawhatchee Audubon Society program will be held in Room 800 on the 2nd floor of the Chandler Center (NW door of 519 Helms St.) at the Crosspoint Church in Niceville. Signs will lead you in. Join us for socializing at 6:30 PM, followed by the presentation at 7:00 PM. Admission is free and open to the public. We look forward to welcoming all interested community members to this fascinating program.
Birding in North Okaloosa County and Blackwater River State Forest October 5
Join in for an exciting birding and nature adventure led by Doug Adkisson through the scenic landscapes of North Okaloosa County and Blackwater River State Forest. This excursion promises a field trip of discovery and enjoyment in the great outdoors. Please wear sturdy shoes, long pants, and a hat, and bring plenty of water along with a sack lunch for a picnic afterwards. Birding at Veterans Park on Okaloosa Island October 19
Experience the most popular birding hotspots with Choctawhatchee Audubon as we explore Veterans Park on Okaloosa Island and Glenwood Park in Fort Walton Beach. Led by the experienced and knowledgeable birder Bruce Purdy, we’ll be on the lookout for vibrant fall migrants and songbirds. Wear closed-toed shoes, long pants, and a hat, and don’t forget your binoculars, scope, or camera for this exciting migration bird walk.
