Join the Choctawhatchee Audubon for birding education and field trips
The following are events and programs for the Choctawhatchee Audubon Society
NOVEMBER 3: MONTHLY MEETING: Birders and other nature enthusiasts will enjoy a program by Barb Almario of the Florida Wildlife & Conservation Commission titled, “Demographic Monitoring of the Bachman’s Sparrow in the Blackwater Wildlife Management Area”. Learn about efforts to studyand protect this celebrated, but declining, species whose song is one the the sounds most identified with the pine forests of the Florida Panhandle.
The meeting will be held in Room 128 of the Learning Resources Center (LRC 128) of the Niceville Campus of Northwest Florida State College. Refreshments, socializing, and announcements begin at 6:30 p.m., with the program at 7: p.m.. The meeting is free and is open to anyone with an interest in birds and nature. NOVEMBER 12: BIRD WALK: Join master birder, Don Ware, for a birding walk at the Fort Walton spray field ponds and the Okaloosa Landfill in Wright. This will be the last opportunity to attend a walk with this local birding legend before he moves from the area. This outing is suitable for both beginning and experienced birders, and ducks, sparrows and other birds will be observed. Meet at 7:30 a.m. at the Coach-N-Four Steakhouse Restaurant parking lot at 1313 Lewis Turner Blvd. in Wright. Call Don at 850-862-6582 for more information.
NOVEMBER 19: FIELD TRIP: Gary Parsons will lead a field trip to the Taminco/Air Products Wildlife Refuge in Milton. Many species of shore and wading birds will be on display in this unique preserve which is unrivaled in the Western Panhandle. Because of security considerations, participants must RSVP to Gary at 850-678-1461 by November 5. Please dress for the elements and bring binoculars and cameras as this is usually an excellent trip. Meet at 7 a.m. just inside the College Blvd. entrance to the Twin Cities Sports Complex at the corner of College Blvd and Hwy. 85 N. in Niceville.
