Star gazing by the shore at Henderson Beach State Park Aug. 9

Time: 5:30 – 10 p.m. Henderson Beach State Park will host a star gazing program.  Volunteers from the Northwest Florida Astronomy Association will set up several telescopes for public viewing of star clusters, planets, and galaxies and answer questions about the night sky. Ponce de Leon Springs State Park swimming area closed due to flooding

Update: Swimming area reopened July 19 Swimming in the spring at Ponce de Leon Springs State Park is currently closed due to flooding from recent rains. The area is closed from flooding on the Choctawhatchee River backing up to Sandy Creek. Morrison Springs in Walton County is closed to swimming until further notice

Update June 19, 2013: Morrison Springs reopens to public June 19  Walton County Officials have announced that they have reopened Morrison Springs to swimmers, but will continue to keep an advisory due to elevated bacteria levels.  The park was closed to swimmers on June 3rd due to high levels of enteric bacteria (enterococci).  Though levels have dropped and the waters will be open to swimmers, an advisory will remain in place due to the fact that levels remain above what...

Pétanque Park opens in Seaside

A new outdoor facility for the game of Pétanque is now open for the public in Seaside. Located next to Bud and Alley’s Pizza Bar, the three court play areas have lighted courts and seating. Each of the three Pétanque courts are 13 ft. wide by 50 ft. long; two with a lime rock screening surface and one touting Bermuda sod for variety.
