FWC developing new guidelines for imperiled beach-nesting birds

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) today approved continued development of Species Conservation Measures and Permitting Guidelines for four state-listed beach-nesting bird species, including the American oystercatcher, snowy plover, least tern and black skimmer. All four species of state-listed beach-nesting birds are included in one set of draft Guidelines, which is now available at MyFWC.com/wildlifehabitats/wildlife/species-guidelines/ Staff will return to a future Commission Meeting for final approval of the Guidelines. New Alaqua Animal Refuge Wildlife Rehabilitation Center hits the ground running

The new Alaqua Animal Refuge Wildlife Rehabilitation Center is a very busy place. Since its start in September, the Center has treated 86 patients as of Nov. 22, 2021. Florida black bear facility coming to new Alaqua Animal Refuge

Thanks to the generosity of local philanthropists Raven and Ryan Jumonville, a Florida black bear facility will be part of the new Alaqua Animal Refuge in Freeport. The Jumonville’s made a special gift to Alaqua Animal Refuge in the form of a 2008 Cruisers Yachts 460 Express yacht.
