FWC announces 2018 bay scallop season

At its February meeting near Tallahassee, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) approved regionally-specific bay scallop open season dates for 2018, including a change to the season for Levy, Citrus and Hernando counties that was proposed in December. The Commission also approved a trial bay scallop season in state waters off Pasco County in 2018. Fluffy Landing neighborhood in Freeport boasts new community dock

The Freeport neighborhood of Fluffy Landing now has a community dock to enjoy fishing and views of the Choctawhatchee Bay. The dock is intended to be a walk to park for the surrounding neighborhood, and does not provide parking for drive to services and does not have any available restroom facilities. The dock was installed by Walton County. The park provides an additional fishing opportunity to the neighborhood through the creation of a boardwalk that crosses a ditch. The dock...

FWC approves several changes to Gulf cobia management

At its December meeting in Gainesville, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) took final action to approve several changes to the management of cobia in state waters of the Gulf of Mexico. These changes are based on stakeholder input and concerns from anglers, and will further promote sustainable management of this fishery.
