South Walton Kids Fishing Tournament at Grayton Beach May 15

Time to catch some fish! The fourth annual CCA Kids Fishing Tournament will be held at 8 a.m. – noon on Saturday, May 15 at Grayton Beach. Sponsored by the Coastal Conservation Association, this popular tournament is for boys and girls age 15 and under. Fishing good in the Gulf, come on down ! Fresh: Rivers still pretty high right now shut down from the rains. However there is catfish being caught. Bay: The rain has not slowed down the speckled trout! It’s great and folks are catching their limits. A few redfish but not shrimp. Fishing continues to be good everywhere! Fresh: Fishing is strong on the river! Large crappie, redbreast, bream, bass and shellcracker are being caught. A 9 lb. bass was caught last week in the river! Bay: Speckled trout and redfish are being caught every day.  They seem to like biting on shrimp. Fishing is great everywhere! Fresh/Bay: Fishing is great on the river! Large crappie, bream, blue gill and shellcracker are being caught. Saltwater: Cobia is doing great and some pompano are being caught. Speckled trout is picking up, black drum, and a few pompano. King mackerel are being caught now that the temperature is rising. Nice catch first day of Gulf Grouper Season

Nice catch! Dan Margagliano of Miramar Beach landed these two nice grouper offshore 15 miles south of Destin with Pete Clauson on April 1. Using mullet and cigar minnows, they also caught a few scamp and a big red snapper. “The seas were 2-3 feet and fishing in only a 19′ center console it was a bit rough so we only fished til about noon,” Dan said.
