Fish on! Bay: Some spanish mackerel in the west end of the bay along with redfish being caught with gold spoons and Mirodine lures. Lots of shrimp in the bay and the fish are eating them! Hogfish caught along reef in Gulf

Local fisherman spears fish not commonly found in our area Local fisherman James Griffith speared this hogfish (Lachnolaimus maximus) Sept. 5 in the Gulf of Mexico near Sandestin. Diving in about 100 ft. of water James found the hogfish along a natural reef. “I’m guessing it weighed about 6 or 7 pounds. Crab Island Shoothout fishing tournament Sept. 25

Proceeds benefit Destin Charter Boat Association Time: Daybreak – 4 p.m. Location: Crab Island, Destin The tournament starts at daybreak.  Scales open at 9 a.m. and close at 4 p.m. Top aggregate weight of Speckled Trout and Redfish wins $500. 5-year-old angler reels in giant black drum

Mickey Mouse rod and dead shrimp brings in the big one! 5-year-old Lauren Barron of Santa Rosa Beach reeled in this huge black drum recently under the Clyde B. Wells bridge.
