The 5th annual Choctawhatchee River Christmas Bird Count will be on Sunday, December 29. Leader of the count, James R. Hill, III, is looking for volunteers who will boat /paddle and identify birds along the Choctawhatchee River and Holmes Creek. Along the Choctawhatchee River specifically from the SR 90 bridge in Caryville to the takeout at Douglas Ferry Road Landing. And/or put in at Douglas Ferry Road Landing and take out at Jenkins Landing at the end of Choctaw Road outside of New Hope.

Alternatively, any section of Holmes Creek between the town park and any of the downstream take outs (Fanning Branch, Brunson, Hightower, Spurling, Live Oak, including clear to Miller’s Ferry Bridge Park, also outside of New Hope).  A person could put in at the ramp of their choice on Holmes Creek, and take out at the ramp of their choice.  Most of Holmes Creek is in the census circle, by design.

He also could use someone to paddle the circumference of Pate Pond and count birds.  All of these routes are extremely beautiful, exciting, and full of great birds.

Let James know if you are interested via email at: psubis@earthlink.net

All skill levels welcome and encouraged!
