Award winning Gainesville, Florida journalist and national speaker Cynthia Barnett will be a featured presenter at Escape To Create at 7 p.m. on Jan. 11. Barnett will discuss how fresh water sources are vanishing and what we can do about it in her book “Blue Revolution: A Water Ethic for America and Florida.”
Barnett has reported on global freshwater issues from the Suwannee River to Singapore. Her first book Mirage: “Florida and the Vanishing Water of the Eastern U.S.,” won the Gold Medal for Best Non-Fiction in the Florida Book Awards and was named by The St. Petersburg Times as one of the top 10 books that every Floridian should read. “Blue Revolution: Unmaking America’s Water Crisis,” was named by The Boston Globe as one of the top 10 science books of 2011. After traveling the world gathering research, Barnett will begin her third book project, the human and natural history of Rain. During her residency as Visiting Artist and Scholar, Barnett will present her illustrated lecture “Blue Revolution: A Water Ethic for America and Florida” at The REP Theatre and will bring her lecture “Water Sustainability and the Future of Florida” to Walton County schools.
