February 6: Thursday Evening Program:

Habitat Restoration in Deer Lake State Park

Project Coordinator and local nature photographer, Jeff Talbert, will discuss ongoing efforts to restore wetland habitats of Deer Lake State Park in southeast Walton County. The goal is to restore these wetlands to conditions thought to exist before European settlement.

The presentation will be held at the Northwest Florida State College Niceville campus in room 302 of Building 400 (Student Services Center or “Raider Central.” Socializing begins at 6:30 PM and the program at 7:00 PM. February 8: Field Trip North Shore of Choctawhatchee Bay

Join experienced leader Dee Nickerson, 850-499-9269, as we scope out various spots along the Choctawhatchee Bay for birds. We will meet at 7:30 am in the parking lot of Bluewater Bay’s Hurricane Grill & Wings, 4512 East Hwy 20, Niceville. You will need to bring your Eglin Recreation Permit, sack lunch, binoculars and/or camera, water, and sunscreen. Wear closed-toed shoes, long pants, and a hat. We will go to White Point, Choctaw Beach and Freeport. Call Dee Nickerson or visit choctawhatcheeaudubon.org for more information. February 15: Field Trip Little Creek Woods in North Walton County

Come hike in the woods with Choctawhatchee Audubon members as we meet with Bob Reid, 850-678-1926, on his conservation property to see piney woods birds and learn about longleaf pines. We will be meeting early at the CVS parking lot of the Oak Creek Shopping Center in Niceville to leave promptly by 7:30 am. Bring a sack lunch, binoculars and/or camera, water, and sunscreen. Wear sturdy closed-toed shoes, long pants, and a hat.
