The Muscogee Nation of Florida has been busy the last several years. With a rural relief project started in 2010, their community efforts have grown to boast a food pantry, thrift store, and most recently, a micro farm is now emerging on their nine acres in Bruce.
Chuck Tucker, Muscogee Farms project director explains the farm will have many facets including educational potential, and as an agri-tourism destination.
“We want to have it as an educational destination for nature, tribal history, and growing vegetables,” said Tucker.
The acreage includes three cypress ponds with boardwalks meandering in between and along a mowed path. Two large greenhouses have basil, tomatoes, and parsley currently growing. Additional herbs will be planted along with hydroponic and aquaponic operations gearing up in the near future. Ground plantings using a drip irrigation system is okra, squash, tomatoes, and non GMO corn. There is also an abundance of blueberries that may be offered for sale this summer.
A museum, gift shop, and Native American Methodist church also reside on the land located in Bruce. The operations are open Wed. – Fri. 8 a.m. – 3 p.m.

About the Muscogee Nation:
The Muscogee Nation of Florida has a long history in the Walton County area. In the early 1800s, the excommunicated Indians headed south from Alabama down the Choctawhatchee River and settled on banks of the river in an area now known as Bruce.
Headquartered in the original schoolhouse built in the late 1800s, the building now houses its historic documentation, and serves as the tribal office and museum/gift shop which sells an assortment of handmade crafts, jewelry, carved gourds, pottery and woven baskets crafted from local long-leaf pine needles.
