South Walton Community Council presents ‘Lake Powell, An Emerald Coast Treasure’ at 7 p.m. on May 22 at the Coastal Branch Library in Santa Rosa Beach.
The presentation is by Emily Ellis. It will feature Lake Powell, a designated Florida Outstanding Waterway and our area’s largest coastal dune lake. Set to a compelling soundtrack, her presentation highlights Lake Powell history, scenic vistas and waterscapes followed by imagery depicting indigenous flora and fauna. It concludes with an overview of recreation, preservation, conservation and activism.
The movie was created for the 2013 World Paddle for the Planet, a four day event which culminated in a 24 hour endurance paddle on Lake Powell. Funds were raised for Mother Ocean Inc. with the message “Be the change you want to see.”
Ellis is a Florida Master Naturalist, artist, environmental advocate, and active in Lake Powell Community Alliance. The Alliance is a community initiative dedicated to preserving the water quality and biodiversity of the globally rare and imperiled Lake Powell ecosystem through education, habitat restoration, watershed-based planning and community partnerships.
