Hosted by Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance, Discover Roads Less Traveled eco-tours will introduce you to some very special places in South Walton.
Time: Meet at 7 p.m.
This walk will involve hiking a paved trail for approximately 1 mile and a short dirt trail about 1/10 of a mile in length. Our session will begin with a tram ride to the beach to take in the beautiful South Walton sunset; be sure to bring your cameras. After a brief discussion of the dune lake outfall and our extensive dune system, we will hike back approximately 1 mile to the parking lot via the tram road. Along the way, we will discuss the various ecosystems along with the flora and fauna that can be found there. If the weather cooperates, we will be able to watch as the stars emerge in the sky. If we are lucky, we might spot some flying squirrels or owls on our journey. We will take a brief detour along a short trail to No Name Lake where we will look for alligators with our flashlights. You can bring a flashlight or headlamp. Water is encouraged. No open-toed shoes. The hike should take about 1.5 hours, dependent on audience participation. Event subject to cancellation due to high winds or inclement weather.
