Center open, play area completed
On Nov. 19, Walton County District 5 commissioner Cecilia Jones hosted a ribbon cutting for the new Padgett Park on J.D. Miller Road in Santa Rosa Beach. The park is named after Timothy Padgett, a Special Forces medical sergeant from Walton County who died in the line of duty in Afghanistan in 2007. Also in attendance was Padgett’s mother Glenda Penton and newly elected District 5 commissioner Cindy Meadows.
The Community Center is the first part of the new park that will be open to the citizens of Walton County. The Community Center was designed as a multi-use facility with a kitchenette. It can be used for meetings or set up as a classroom environment. Contact your commissioner’s office for reservations.
In the next few weeks, the park will also be opening a completely ADA approved playground, a splash pad, two pavilions, a multi-use field and a park trail that will connect to the Greenway Trail system.
The building boasts chairs, table, kitchen and restrooms. You may reserve it for events by contacting the County Commissioner’s office at (850) 231-2978.
