The alternative energy movement “Hands Across the Sand” gathered across the globe and locally at Seaside Aug. 4 to bring awareness to alternative energy use, and bring an end to offshore drilling in Florida’s waters.
More than 100 people gathered along the beach in Seaside, Florida.
“End our dependence on dirty fuels and embrace clean energy sources for a sustainable world for our children and theirs. It’s the most important thing we can do as humans. No to offshore drilling in Florida’s waters not now not ever,” said Dave Rauschkolb, founder of the movement.
Local businessman Dave Rauschkolb started the movement in 2009. 10,000 Floridians representing 60 towns and cities and over 90 beaches joined hands to protest the efforts by the Florida Legislature and the US Congress to lift the ban on oil drilling in the near and off shores of Florida. Florida’s Hands Across The Sand event was the largest gathering in Florida’s history united against expanding oil drilling into Florida’s waters.
