Join the Audubon for birding education and field trips

The following are upcoming events and programs for the Choctawhatchee Audubon Society

MARCH 1: Monthly meeting: Learn how to get along with our native black bears in a program to be presented at the next monthly meeting of the Choctawhatchee Audubon Society. “Living with Florida Black Bears” will be presented by Andrew Jernigan of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Learn more about our local bear population as well as strategies for comfortable co-existence.

The meeting will be held in the new Student Services Center, Room 132 (SSC 132) of the Niceville Campus of Northwest Florida State College. The meeting is free and open to the public. Socializing and refreshments begin at 6:30 p.m., and the program begins at 7 p.m. For more information, call Walt Spence at 850-582-7064.

March 17: Bird Walk: Bird walk around the Bluewater Bay and Lake Pippin areas. Meet at the Bluewater Bay Winn-Dixie on State Rd 20 at 7:30 a.m. Birds of interest include migrating warblers, vireos, owls, and ospreys. Beginners are welcome. For more information, call 582-7064

March 24: Bird Walk: Join Bruce Purdy for a bird walk at the Okaloosa Landfill and Ft. Walton Holding Ponds in Wright. Meet at the Coach and 4 Restaurant on N. Lewis Turner Blvd. at 7:30 a.m. Expect to see raptors, warblers, and shorebirds. Beginners are welcome. For more info, call Bruce at 305-359-5334.
