Mickey Mouse rod and dead shrimp brings in the big one!

5-year-old Lauren Barron of Santa Rosa Beach reeled in this huge black drum recently under the Clyde B. Wells bridge. With just a little help from her dad David Barron, it took Lauren around 30 minutes to reel in the fish that was just as big as the little angler.

Using dead shrimp and a Mickey Mouse rod/reel with 17 lb. line, Lauren was a little worried about its size.

“It’s going to sink the boat,” Lauren exclaimed.

Lauren was fishing with her dad along with sisters Phoebe and Carley. The giant fish was released.

“It was a hoot,” David said.
