Dove hunt at Cypress Cattle Oct. 5, 2013

Cypress Cattle is hosting a dove hunt on Saturday October 5. It will be an all-day event, with skeet shooting from 10 -11:30 a.m., a catered lunch (fish fry) at 11:30 a.m., the afternoon hunting birds and a bonfire after dark. School story book turns to reality for 3rd graders at West Defuniak Elementary

The third grade classes of West Defuniak Elementary have been reading a book called “Aero and Officer Mike.”  The story is about Corporal Mike Matsik and his K-9 partner Aero, who have been partners for four years.  Through words and action-filled photographs, the story captures the two on duty working as one and describes their relationship at work and at play, on duty and off, at the station, responding to emergency calls, and during ongoing K-9 training. FWC takes action on snapper, grouper

It’s official, Oct. 1-21 red snapper season is on! The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) today approved an Oct. 1-21 supplemental recreational red snapper season in Gulf state waters for 2013 and eliminated a Feb. 1 – March 31 closure affecting several species of grouper in Gulf of Mexico state waters and a Nov. 1 – March 31 recreational season closure for vermilion snapper in Atlantic state waters.
